Streetscape Master Plan
Land Studio was a vital member of a team selected for the Town of Chincoteague Main Street Corridor Enhancement Project. With the new bridge to Chincoteague Island largely bypassing the downtown core district between the mainland and the beaches, there was concern that the businesses would suffer. Various services include a streetscape program that includes utility relocation and hardscape of the business district, along with a comprehensive signage and orientation program to redirect visitors to the downtown core district. The streetscape program is for ten blocks along Main Street and includes reconstruction of the roadways, sidewalks and utility system. Land Studio pc serves as the project planner and landscape architect. Significant public involvement was conducted throughout the project including a two-day charrette.
Chincoteague is a beach resort town on the Virginia Eastern Shore that hosts over 1,000,000 visitors annually. The town is rich in a waterman history and, more recently, is a world renown destination for the annual pony drive. The streetscape program will portray both histories of the community and will be designed for the huge tourist industry.
